Help for Military Homeowners
Fannie Mae co-hosted “Military Housing Forum 2012” last week in Washington, DC, reinforcing the company’s long-standing commitment to helping military families avoid foreclosure.
Fannie Mae President and CEO Timothy J. Mayopoulos opened the two-day forum with an overview of Fannie Mae’s efforts to help military families. The forum attracted leaders from nonprofits, Congress, and the military.
Our Commitment
Fannie Mae is committed to helping service members meet the demands of modern military life while enjoying sustainable, affordable homeownership. Service members facing financial hardship may be eligible* for:
- 6 months of payment relief with a special military forbearance.
- 12 months protection from foreclosure and other legal proceedings following active duty termination.
- Hardship and other assistance available for Permanent Change of Station (PCS) orders, active duty (or just left), or injury to a service member or their spouse.
Additionally, effective November 1, 2012, service members with PCS orders may be eligible to sell their home through a short sale even if they are still current on their mortgage payments.
Service members with Fannie Mae loans can receive personal assistance at a Fannie Mae Mortgage Help Center. Assistance is available in person or over the phone, in English or in Spanish, and help from Fannie Mae is always free.
